Our experienced guides will take you on an unforgettable journey to explore Iceland’s spectacular landscapes and learn about Iceland’s rich history and culture.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/TS_VCSC_Fancy_Tabs_Single][TS_VCSC_Fancy_Tabs_Single icon=”fa fa-calendar” title=”Itinerary” tab_id=”1543317390234-3-5fc0a-103d” padding=”padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;”][TS_VCSC_Timeline_CSS_Container timeline_layout=”ts-timeline-css-right” timeline_preloader=”0″ timeline_linetype=”singledotted” timeline_linestrength=”6″ timeline_show_cats=”false” timeline_show_tags=”false” timeline_sort=”false”][TS_VCSC_Timeline_CSS_Event event_title=”Day 1 |” event_titlealign=”left” event_iconcolor=””]We start off by heading to the South Coast, we drive through the small towns of Hveragerdi and Selfoss before we get to our first stop, the Lava center, a museum where you will see and learn about the volcanic activities that created the past and present landscape of Iceland. Next stop is the fantastic Seljalandsfoss. Make sure you bring your waterproof clothes as it is possible to walk behind the waterfall. We will then stop at the powerful Skogafoss waterfall. Walk up the staircase beside the waterfall to catch some spectacular views of the South Coast. On a sunny day, both waterfalls will be made even more beautiful by splendid rainbows.
We will drive past Eyjafjallajökull, the glacier that erupted in 2010, stopping all air traffic for weeks and making Iceland famous all over the world.
You will have the opportunity to walk close to Sólheimajökull Glacier Tongue and admire the different colors of the ice.
During the summer months, you ill have the option to visit the famous Dakota Plane Wreck. The plane wreck is situated on a black sand beach, about 1.6 miles from the main road. It takes around 1-1.5 hours to walk to the plane and back and the weather conditions can sometimes be challenging.
As we continue driving along Road 1, you will see Drangar, the rock of the elves, you will feel the incredible power flowing from the elves and the rock formations they dwell in. Later, we will visit the cliffs of Dyrholaey and the black beach Reynisfjara, with its basalt columns and caves, before we get to Vik, a charming fishing village situated very close to one of Iceland’s most famous and dangerous volcano, famous for its black beaches and its sea stacks. After lunch, we continue towards the southeast and we stop to see Fjadrargljufur, a beautiful canyon. We drive through the magnificent Icelandic landscapes with the change to see lava fields, sand deserts, and glacier tongues before we get to our 3 Star hotel in Skaftafell, where we will spend the night and rest before another exciting day of sightseeing. All rooms here are modern, with private bathroom facilities. Dinner at the hotel is not included but it is highly recommended.[/TS_VCSC_Timeline_CSS_Event][TS_VCSC_Timeline_CSS_Event event_title=”Day 2 |” event_titlealign=”left” event_iconcolor=””]Our second will start with a delicios breakfast at the hotel.
We will start the tour just after breakfast to catch the morning light on the breath-taking Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, the jewel of Iceland’s crown. Here, you can admire the floating icebergs of several sizes and shapes that from the main glacier make their way to the ocean. A walk on the nearby Diamond Beach will give you the chance to see icebergs that are washed up on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, with very different colors than the other icebergs in the lagoon. In the summer, you will have the option to join a boat ride on the Glacier Lagoon. In the winter, you will be able to join a tour to see some spectacular ice caves.
We will stop at Fjallsárlón, a mini version of the Glacier Lagoon often with more, though smaller icebergs and fewer tourists.
From there, we continue our drive past Vatnajökull, catching just the right light for good photos, especially of Svinafellsjökull glacier tongue showing its amazing emerald green ice tongue flowing down between the cliffs. Then we will drive back to Skaftafell where, if you are up for a short hike, you can see Svartifoss, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by dark lava columns. If time allows, we will make some extra stops to ee some more unique attractions such as the old turf church near Hof or the old Viking house a Kirkjubaejarklaustur, where it is believed Irish monks lived before the Vikings arrived in Iceland. This was also the location of a well known convent of Benedictine nuns from 1186 until 1550. The beautiful waterfall seen from the road in Kirkjubaejarklaustur bears the name Systrafoss, the sister’s waterfall. From here, the journey continues with a restful drive along Hjorleifshofdi, where one of the first Vikings founded his settlement. Continuing from where we pass the town of Vik and the sights were seen the day before but in a different light so any wishes for a stop for the photo shoot will be granted. The last waterfall on the schedule is Urridafoss in Thjorsa river. We will be back in Reykjavik in time to freshen up and have a nice dinner in one of the many restaurants available in the city.[/TS_VCSC_Timeline_CSS_Event][/TS_VCSC_Timeline_CSS_Container][/TS_VCSC_Fancy_Tabs_Single][TS_VCSC_Fancy_Tabs_Single icon=”fa fa-star-o” title=”Highlights” tab_id=”1543398243730-4-2fc0a-103d” padding=”padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][TS_VCSC_Fancy_List list_type=”image” marker_image=”https://www.icelandpremiumtours.com/wp-content/plugins/ts-visual-composer-extend/images/bullets/bullet_check_green.png” marker_size=”16″ marker_spacing=”20″ content_size=”16″ conditionals=”eyJ2aWV3ZXJzdGF0dXMiOiJldmVyeWJvZHkiLCJyZXN0cmljdGlvbiI6Im5vbmUiLCJ1c2Vycm9sZXMiOiIiLCJ1c2Vyc2NvcGUiOiJhbnkiLCJ1c2VyY2FwcyI6IiIsIm90aGVyc2NvcGUiOiJhbnkiLCJvdGhlcnRhZ3MiOiIiLCJkZXZpY2V0eXBlcyI6IiJ9″]
