2 Day South Coast and Jokulsarlon Tour

The South Shore with its mesmerizing waterfalls and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon with its floating icebergs are among the most beautiful destinations in Iceland.
When searching the web for places to see in Iceland, you will surely come across amazing pictures of waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers and icebergs, pictures of natural wonders you will want to see with your own eyes. All these wonders can be seen on our 2 Day South Shore and Jokulsarlon Private Tour.

Why should you choose our 2 Day South Shore and Jokulsarlon Tour?

Both the South Coast and Jokulsarlon are reachable with one-day trips from Reykjavik but, being Jokulsarlon so far away from the capital (at least 5 hours drive in good condition and without stops) a day tour to the Glacier Lagoon, although also beautiful, would not be my choice.
However, with this exciting 2 Day South Shore and Glacier Lagoon Private Tour, you have the chance to combine two tours and see some of Iceland’s most famous wonders at a slower and more enjoyable pace.
The main reason why I love this 2 Day Jokulsarlon Tour is that it takes you to Iceland’s most spectacular places. You can see waterfalls, volcanoes, black sand beaches, amazing coastlines, and glaciers. You can see everything Iceland is famous for, in just two days, traveling in a comfortable jeep with a guide to take care of you and entertain you with interesting facts and stories about Iceland and its nature.

What are the highlights of the 2 Day South Shore and Glacier Lagoon Tour?

I absolutely love this tour because of the variety of landscapes and sights you come across as you drive through Iceland’s South Coast all the way to the Glacier Lagoon.
Seljalandsfoss is definitely one of Iceland’s most popular landmarks, a beautiful waterfall that gives you the chance to walk behind it. You can walk behind this waterfall, just please be careful as it is very slippery and make sure you bring a waterproof jacket because you will certainly get wet.
Another great stop is Skógafoss, a 60m tall waterfall. I would recommend walking up the staircase to the top of the waterfall, from where you will have a stunning view of the cascade and the beautiful south coast in front of you.
Reynisfjara beach, the famous black sand beach near Vik, is only a few kilometers away. Walking on the black beach will make you feel the power of Icelandic nature, as the strong winds blow and the white waves rush on the black bank.
You will see beautiful mountains and glaciers, even the infamous Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano whose name no-one could pronounce which blocked air traffic all over Europe when it erupted in 2010.

You will spend the night in Skaftafell National Park, in a 3 Star hotel, where you can rest at the end of your day of exploration.
If you take this tour in the winter (September to April), your guide will take you out at night trying to catch some Northern Lights, bonus to this already great trip.

The highlight of the second day, and one of my favorite places in the world, is the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. At the edge of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull, this lagoon will impress you with its white and blue icebergs gently floating towards the open sea. You will want to spend hours admiring the different colors and shapes of the icebergs. While exploring the lagoon, you will be surprised by the different shapes and colors ice can have, you will meet some seals and birds and, if you are lucky, you might even see icebergs collapsing from the big glacier. I have been to the Glacier Lagoon many times and every time it leaves me speechless, with its ever-changing beauty.

In the winter, from October to March, you have the chance to experience something even more spectacular by joining a Blue Ice Cave Adventure.
This tour takes you on an adventure to explore one of Iceland’s beautiful Blue Caves under Vatnajokull, for great photo opportunities and an unforgettable experience.
The tour difficulty is medium/hard as you have to walk on ice, slippery and uneven terrain. You will also use ropes to descend into the cave so you should be in good shape for this tour. It is not the easiest but it is worth it as it is an amazing experience to be inside an ice cave surrounded by blue ice.
